Meindl hiking boots – trendsetters in the outdoor industry
Hardly any other hiking boot brand strikes the balance between innovation and durability as well as Meindl. The manufacturer is constantly developing new ideas to further enhance the comfort of its boots. Numerous standards in the hiking boot sector, such as categorisation by intended use, can also be traced back to Meindl. Whether for women, men or children – Meindl hiking boots are the ideal solution for anyone who enjoys an active lifestyle, offering maximum comfort and the highest quality for trekking.
The manufacturer Meindl: Traditional craftsmanship & forward-looking innovations
Meindl’s hiking boots have a long history of development. After all, they have been manufactured to genuine shoemaking standards in Kirchanschöring, Bavaria, for over 300 years. Despite continuous development and innovative techniques, production is still based on traditional craftsmanship. The manufacture of a single high-quality trekking boot alone involves over 200 steps, carried out under the supervision of experienced master shoemakers. The functionality of the outdoor shoes is tested by a team of professional mountain guides and is constantly being refined through innovative ideas. It is therefore no surprise that the manufacturer has already received numerous national and international awards for its quality and innovative strength, including the coveted European Outdoor Award.
How good are Meindl shoes?
Even in extreme conditions, Meindl women’s hiking boots, Meindl men’s hiking boots and Meindl children’s hiking boots perform admirably and provide optimum protection for the feet against the elements. Meindl is one of the few hiking boot manufacturers to use double-stitched seams, thereby significantly increasing the durability of its boots.
Long hikes are no problem in Meindl hiking boots, and thanks to their high level of comfort, they place only minimal strain on the feet. With its ‘Fit System’ concept, the manufacturer offers hiking boots with different last widths, ensuring that comfortable boots are available for both narrow and wide feet. Depending on the model, the Memory Foam MFS Vacuum® between the sturdy outer shaft and the soft inner shaft ensures an optimal fit to the shape of the foot. Meindl’s children’s hiking boots feature a removable Best-Fit insole, making it very easy to check whether the shoe size is still the right one.
Other innovative features include the Air Revolution® tongue made from 3D mesh, which ensures an optimal foot climate; the Alpin sole concept for Meindl mountaineering shoes and boots; the variofix® lacing system; and the waterproof GORE-TEX® SURROUND® system, which keeps the hiker’s feet completely dry.
Which Meindl shoes are right for you?
With ‘Meindl Shoes for Actives’ and ‘Meindl Identity’, this manufacturer of innovative footwear brings two first-class product ranges to the market. Which one is right for you depends primarily on the intended use of your Meindl trekking shoe. Whilst the “Shoes for Actives” range offers models across all hiking shoe categories, the “Identity” range – with categories A, A/B and B – is limited to lighter hiking shoes and boots, which are not suitable for extreme mountaineers.
Meindl Shoes for Actives
The brand slogan says it all: in this product range, you’ll find hiking shoes and boots for every purpose. Whether as a sports shoe for everyday use, trekking boots for multi-day tours, or Meindl mountaineering boots for high-altitude terrain. You can choose between various features, such as rubber or Vibram® soles, a leather or GORE-TEX® lining, and an upper made from nubuck or suede leather.
Meindl Identity
When you purchase Meindl Identity shoes, you can use the ID number embossed on the shoe to access a detailed traceability report for the upper leather on the manufacturer’s website. A Meindl Identity shoe is created through five distinct stages: starting from the alpine meadow, through the farmer, the tannery and the production process, right up to the final product. The ID provides you with complete transparency regarding the origin of your outdoor shoe, giving you a unique shoe with its own identity. The models in this range are suitable for use up to hiking boot category B, i.e. for multi-day tours with a trekking rucksack with a capacity of up to 70 litres.
How do Meindl hiking boots fit?
Like all hiking boots, Meindl hiking boots should be bought slightly larger to prevent your toes from hitting the front of the boot whilst walking. Ideally, adults should add 15 mm to their usual size, and children 12 mm. You should also make sure you choose a boot with the right last width.
How do I look after Meindl hiking boots?
Meindl hiking boots for women and men are characterised by high-quality materials and excellent craftsmanship, and can last a very long time with the right care. Basic cleaning is best carried out in the traditional way using a soft to medium-stiff brush and a little warm water. The finer the leather, the softer the brush should be. You can then waterproof them every three weeks using standard waterproofing products. We also recommend using wax for leather care.
